Degust wine with a screw top?
Should one degust wine in a restaurant even though it is closed with a screw top and not with a cork?
In any case. You should absolutely try a “screw-top wine” as we call these wines with a twist or screw top somewhat disparagingly. Because this type of wine can also have other faults. In New Zealand, for example, this closure is used predominantly. However, we do not want to forego the pleasure-promising “plop” when the bottle is opened. Although natural corks have been subject to criticism for some time because, among other things, they unfortunately oftentimes leave a cork taste in the wine. In order to avoid this, an increasing number of producers are using an artificial cork or indeed a screw top and some even a “cork” made of glass. However, we oftentimes associate a screw top with cheap wine and, for that reason, we will definitely not see a fine Bordeaux wine with a screw top in the near future. Degusting a wine is a ritual that should not be abandoned, despite the screw top.
