Mop up gravy with bread?

Is it still frowned upon to mop up gravy with bread?

In the past, dipping up the leftovers on the plate with bread was a pointer that one came from a socially lower class and might not have enough to eat at home. However, as we have more than enough in our latitudes today, dipping up salad dressing can also be a compliment to the chef: “Wow, that’s a fabulous dressing”. Bread is ideal to mop up the last drops of a fine gravy or soup. Especially when you are amongst friends, just enjoy it. However, when you dine in a gourmet restaurant in a sumptuous ambience, it is advisable to refrain from it.
