Share restaurant bill?

Can one split the total amount of a restaurant bill and pay with several credit cards?

In order to avoid such a situation, it is recommended to take along cash – if possible in small denominations – when you dine with friends. One pays by credit card and the other settles his share in cash or in Switzerland with Twint. Or if you like to function as an ATM for your friends, give your share to the card user who will pay the total amount.

It is fine to use a credit card as of about 30 Euros or 50 Swiss Francs. This extra effort by the service personnel should be honoured by a tip in any case.

It becomes complicated when each guest would like to have a different amount booked off. This might easily end in chaos, particularly during lunch time, when everyone wants to pay at the same time.
